Every collection by Hekne is a tribute to the avian world, with each line reflecting the colours of a specific bird. This approach not only provides a unique visual identity but also promotes longevity in fashion. By eschewing the traditional seasonal turnover of garments, Hekne ensures that their pieces enjoy a longer life, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

The Ficedula Parva collection, named after the Red-breasted Flycatcher, is a testament to Hekne's commitment to slow fashion. The garments, made from organic cotton, linen, and recycled yarn, are designed to last beyond a single season. The unique textile print, handmade by the designer, adds a personal touch to each piece.

All materials used in the collection are GOTS certified, ensuring that they are produced in an eco-friendly manner. The print on the jersey fabric is a digital rendition of a handmade print, and the entire production process, including the printing, is GOTS certified. This commitment to sustainability extends to the production of the garments, most of which takes place in Europe.

The garments in the collection are designed for versatility and comfort. They can be worn for various occasions, from a casual day out to an evening event. The dresses, jackets, and cardigans can be paired with different outfits, and the waistbands on the dresses and linen jackets can be tied in various ways to create different looks.

The design process for the Ficedula Parva collection began in January 2016, with the garments ready for sale by February 2017. The process involved extensive research, from selecting the bird to sourcing sustainable fabrics and designing the garments. Despite challenges in finding a wide range of sustainable fabrics, the limitations led to creative solutions that have shaped the collection.

The Ficedula Parva collection's commitment to sustainable fashion and unique design earned it the Silver A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award recognises designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, further cementing Hekne's place as a leader in sustainable fashion.
